Details
The piece combines three elements:
- a four-dimensional synthesised representation of the dynamic movement and change of the river using data from the river itself;
- direct sound of the river obtained by using a surround sound microphone;
- advanced sensor technology that will allow audiences to interact with and interpret the music to create their own sonic landscapes.
You can help - We all need to feel good about ourselves and the place we live - why not donate to The River Sings and contribute to the new sound of Derry?
Why?
This piece points to a more engaging musical world in which people interact with new music in their daily lives through live participation and via the internet. Whilst relying on fundamental musical principles it essentially frees itself from formal musical constructs, instead interacting with nature and people, allowing the music to ebb and flow organically.
It will challenge the boundaries of musical performance: the river performs, the audience can perform, the score is generated in real time and re-creates itself on an ongoing basis; the piece is flexible to new musical and other art-form additions. By embarking on this musical adventure, we aim to provoke thought and action, to lift the spirit, to raise expectations, and to inspire change in the people of Derry and beyond.
